1. What this is
Better Beast is a personal independently-run service operated by Alex Taliaferro. It generates training plans and lets you log workouts, and is offered free of charge with no warranty of any kind. By using the service you agree to these terms.
2. Not medical or professional advice
The generated plans, exercise descriptions, and any feedback the service produces are not medical advice, physical therapy, or personal training. They are programmatic suggestions based on the inputs you provide. Consult a qualified medical professional before starting any new exercise program, especially if you have any existing condition, injury, or health concern. You use the service at your own risk and take full responsibility for what you do in the gym.
3. Account
You agree to provide a real, working email address, keep your password reasonably secure, and not share your account. You are responsible for activity that occurs under your login. If you suspect your account has been compromised, email me and I'll help.
4. Acceptable use — zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior
Better Beast has features that let users share workouts and connect with others (the Social tab). There is zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. By using the service you agree not to:
- Post, share, or transmit content that is unlawful, hateful, threatening, abusive, sexually explicit, harassing, defamatory, invasive of privacy, or otherwise objectionable.
- Impersonate any other person or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organization.
- Use the service to harm, stalk, intimidate, bully, or harass anyone.
- Attempt to break, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer the API.
- Probe the server for vulnerabilities without prior coordination. (If you find one and want to report it responsibly, email me — I'll thank you.)
- Use automated tools to register accounts in bulk.
- Use the service to do anything illegal under the laws that apply to you.
You can report objectionable content from the Social tab (the “⋯” button on any shared workout) or block any abusive user. We act on reports within 24 hours by removing the content and ejecting the user who provided it. Repeat or egregious violators are banned permanently.
You can also block any user from the Social tab. Blocking removes that user's posts from your feed immediately, drops any friendship, and prevents them from interacting with you further.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of any data you enter (workout logs, plan inputs, biometric data you choose to connect). You grant me only the limited license needed to store and process that data so the application can show it back to you. I do not use your content for training models or any other purpose beyond running the app.
6. Service availability
This is a independently-run service. The service may be slow, broken, or unavailable at any time, and I may take it offline permanently without notice. I will try to give existing users notice via email before shutting it down, but make no guarantee.
7. Third-party integrations
If you connect a Whoop or Oura account, your use of those providers is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, not these. I'm not responsible for outages, billing, or data handling on their end.
8. Termination
You can stop using the service at any time. I can suspend or close any account at my discretion, especially if it's violating these terms. If I close your account for cause, I'll let you know why if you ask.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available," with no warranties of any kind, express or implied — including fitness for purpose, accuracy of output, or uninterrupted availability. Outputs generated by the plan engine are best-effort heuristics and are not guaranteed to be safe, optimal, or appropriate for you specifically.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. My total liability for any direct damages is capped at the total amount you have paid for the service, which is $0.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where I reside, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
12. Changes
If these terms change, the "Last updated" date at the top will reflect it. Material changes will trigger an email to existing accounts before they take effect. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance.
